The Littleton Public Schools Food Service program must increase the price of breakfast and lunch due to federal pricing requirements. The price of breakfast will increase 5 cents, and the price of lunch will increase 15 cents, which represents a four percent increase for breakfast and a six percent increase for lunch.
This is the first price increase in seven years despite the fact the price of groceries has increased about 15 percent in the same seven year period. "We recommend our food services enterprise for keeping costs low and for delaying a price increase for so many years," said Littleton Public Schools Chief Financial Officer Scott Myers. "This cost increase represents the district's best effort to make the mandatory price increase while remaining sensitive to the needs of parents and families.
The LPS Board of Education approved the increase during the January 12, 2012 Board of Education meeting.
As of March 1, 2012 the new lunch price at Highland will be $2.40.
