. Emphasis is placed on content and skills to develop the whole student. We offer a well-rounded curriculum with high, attainable expectations for all students.

How is writing taught?
We strive to integrate writing into each subject area through the use of journals, reports, poetry, and creative writing. Our instruction is geared toward frequent, focused feedback on student writing. Highland's teachers have been trained in a variety of methods that complement basic writing instruction. Some of these methods are the Step Up to Writing program and the 6 Traits Assessment program. The Write Source series provides additional support. Acceleration and intervention strategies are available for each child based on needs.
