It has been an honor and a privilege to serve Highland Elementary as the principal since 2001. Highland Elementary is an exceptional K-5 school with an outstanding staff who set high expectations and standards for all students. Our students display a strong performance on district and state assessments.
The majority of our teaching staff have their Masters’ Degrees and have also been at Highland over 10 years. We take pride in creating a caring, warm and friendly environment which welcomes everyone. We support a balance of time-tested and current instructional practices. In addition to the core curriculum of Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies and Science, our students also have instruction in Art, Music, Physical Education, Character Education, Health, Reading support and Technology.
Highland Elementary supports the 21st Century technology by having SMART Board technology in all the first through fifth grade classrooms. Our computer lab has 30 Dell Computers and we have portable computers available for classroom use.
We are here to serve our community therefore we have several established programs that help our families meet the needs of our busy schedules outside of school. We have a Preschool Academy to service children from 3 years old through kindergarten. Our flexible Preschool schedule has been created to accommodate the parent needs in the Highland community. Our “Hotshots Program”, a before and after school day care program has been rated the “Best in Arapahoe County”. In addition to our free half day program, we provide tuition based all day kindergarten for those who wish.
Because we value developing student leadership and expanding personal interests, we also provide several student focused programs. Some of these are: Peace Pals, Highland Hoppers, Student Council, In-School Post Office and the Beaver Buzz, a student written newsletter. Additionally, we offer Enrichment Activities which include: Spanish, Art, Science, Yoga, Junior Great Books, Spelling Bee, Chess Club, Destination Imagination and Math Olympiads.
Our parents are a vital part of our school community. They are very active in the school and devote many volunteer hours, which support the students’ education and the school. We value and appreciate our parents and community members.
For additional information on our many fine organizations please visit our For Parents section and our For Students.
The monthly newsletter called the “Highland Highlights, which is located in the News/Announcements section, will also give you valuable information about the current happenings at Highland.
We are here to be of service to you. Please call if you have any questions or if you are new to the area and would like to visit our school.
Live, Love, Laugh and Learn,
