Each fall, Highland has a huge book fair to raise money for the library and to excite students to read. For one week, the library is converted into a reading wonderland of books at affordable prices. We involve students in the preparations and go all out in our decorating according to the selected theme. We have had knights and princesses in the Kingdom of Reading, the Reading Rain Forest, and the Blizzard of Books for which students made nearly 400 snowflakes to hang at the book fair.

The spring book fair is a Buy One, Get One Free fair that takes place during Field Day week. It is a great chance for families to stock up on books for summer reading –great books at great prices.

Throughout the year, the library hosts guest speakers relating to classroom studies and/or special projects. As part of a book study on Lois Lowry’s Number the Stars, our guest in 2007 was a WWII holocaust survivor who spoke to 4th and 5th Grade students about his experiences as a hidden child in France during the war.
