I attended the University of Denver. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Performance, Music Certification K-12, and Orff-Schulwerk certified Level 3. I have been teaching in the public schools for 22 years. I have been teaching in the Littleton Public Schools for 17 years. During this time I helped to write the Littleton Performing Arts k-12 Curriculum.
I believe children should be given the opportunity to learn music by moving and dancing, singing, playing instruments and learning to create and write music on their own. This is the basis for the Orff-Schulwerk method of learning music.
The children learn to play and improvise on tone bar instruments, and small percussion instruments. Recorder playing begins in second grade and is continued through 5th grade.
Dramatizing literature and songs and adding melodies and rhythms to enhance the literature is also part of the Orff-Schulwerk method.
