EXERCISE INCREASING BRAIN FUNCTION?

“One of the best ways to maximize the brain is through exercise, movement. Everybody feels better after exercise. There’s a reason for it!” –Dr. John Ratey, Harvard Medical School

Welcome to Highland Elementary Physical Education class! All Kindergarten – 5th grade students have PE class 1-2 times per week throughout the school year.

My goal is to establish a strong foundation for children to enjoy a lifetime of physical activities. Towards this end, children participate in a variety of age-appropriate activities, which emphasize physical fitness, team sports and individual sports. Our curriculum is aligned with the State and National Elementary Physical Education Standards, which state:

1. Student demonstrates competent skills in a variety of activities and sports.
2. Student demonstrates competency in physical fitness and its relation to recreational, individual and team sports.
3. Student demonstrates knowledge of factors important to participation in physical activities.

In addition to our regular PE classes, all students are invited to participate in several special events throughout the year: Highland Hustle, Highland Hoppers, and Field Days. Please see the links to the left for details on these events.
