What Is the Seal of Biliteracy?

The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by Littleton Public Schools in order to recognize students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more world languages by high school graduation. The seal certifies attainment of biliteracy for students and is a statement of accomplishment that further supports a student's preparedness for college/career and for engagement as a global citizen.

The seal is noted on students’ diplomas and transcripts to provide colleges and employers an easy way to identify candidates who possess multiple language skills.

What Is the Criteria for the Seal of Biliteracy?

World Language Criteria
Students must complete at least one of the following options with the required proficiencies and scores shown:

Option 1: For languages with school course offerings

  • Completion of 4-year course of study in a world language with a GPA greater than or equal to 3.0

Option 2: For languages with a national exam

  • AP World Language Exam >/= 3
  • AP World Literature Exam >/= 3
  • IB World Language Exam >/= 4
  • AAPPL Exam for the World Language >/= I-4

English Criteria
Students must complete LPS English Language Arts requirements with a 3.0 or higher GPA and one of the following with the minimum score shown:

Options:

  • SAT - Evidence Based Reading/Writing >/= 470
  • ACT - Evidence Based Reading/Writing >/= 25
  • AP​ ​Literature ​Exam >/= 3
  • AP Language Exam >/= 3
  • IB English Exam >/= 4
