LPS Gifted & Talented by School

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Programming options differ slightly school to school as in LPS we place a high value on each building making decisions that are best for their individual school community. At the elementary level, our most typical programming options include: cluster grouping, pull-out classes, acceleration by subject, grade acceleration, early-entrance, co-teaching, flexible grouping, and affinity groups for SEL needs.

Instructional Strategies that support the development of Gifted learners could include: differentiation of content, products or processes, tiered assignments, curriculum compacting, independent study/projects, utilization of the Depth & Complexity Framework, innovation, technology & STEM challenges.

MIDDLE SCHOOL

Programming options differ slightly school to school as in LPS we place a high value on each building making decisions that are best for their individual school community. At the middle grades level, students are given access to advanced classes in their area of strength in math (6th, 7th, and 8th) and language arts (7th and 8th).  Students also have access to a variety of extracurricular activities and events that also lean into their strengths.

Students begin to take ownership of their ALPs by helping GT facilitators write their goals and monitor their progress.  The GT facilitators focus on the social and emotional aspects of being gifted and how to navigate and thrive in school, from the transition to middle school to getting ready for high school.
